A Different Sort of Courage

Earl was fifty-seven when he pursued a PhD in accounting. He needed enduring courage. How? All over his office, on his doors and the bathroom mirror, scriptures were posted. They spoke of victory. They sang of conquest. They routed out the taunts of Satan. They prepared a man for the dream God had planted in his heart.

Rebecca longed to escape a fierce battle with breast cancer. She needed a lion’s share of courage. How? She prepared note cards with the healing scriptures. She read these, shouted them, and carried them with her everywhere. She had found a hiding place in God’s Word while enduring the ravages of proactive cancer treatment. Life was interrupted, but God opened new doors and her hope filled book was written for the faint of heart.

Rosie faced bankruptcy and the loss of her precious home. She needed faith filled courage. How? She arose while the sun was sleeping, and poured out her heart to God. The enemy mocked but she stood on the scriptures that proclaimed God’s love and care for her. Not knowing the outcome, she knew the One who held her future and trusted He would not disappoint her. And the God, who sees, honored her trust and cursed her darkness.

Mary, a broken hearted mother, cried herself to sleep. She needed death defying courage. How? She broadcasted from the house tops that her desert would blossom as a rose. She hid in secret and cried to her redeemer, “Cover me, for you are my near kinsman.” She declared His truth into the realms of darkness and the knee of the evil one was brought low and the righteous One was exalted!

What is the courage you need today, beloved daughter of the Most High? Doesn’t El Roi, the God who sees, count the hairs upon your head? Doesn’t Jehovah Raah, your shepherd, who neither slumbers nor sleeps, refuse take His eyes off you? Doesn’t Elohim, the God of creation, know your name, your risings and your sittings, your comings and your goings? And hasn’t He given you His truth to hide in your heart while the battle rages, while lightning blazes the sky?

Be encouraged, precious one. Listen to the words of your Father. This He speaks—to you. This is the cry of His heart—for you.

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you
great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
Jeremiah 33:3
I love you! Thou art Mine!

Precious Girl I miss you so. Thank you for your words of sweet encouragement. How kind is our Savior who causes us to triumph in the dark places of our lives. Always He is faithful to turn our mourning into dancing. He loves to do this. He died and rose again…to dance with us!
