“Oh, look at you. Look at your works! What are you doing to serve God? And you’re a failure in social media, and you take too long to accomplish anything. And how can you add one more thing on your to do list? You’re just slow!”
The assault of Satan was a familiar one. I had given heed to all those accusations before—and stumbled in my walk with God.
But as I sat in the Lord’s presence Saturday morning, the Bible devotion led me to a scripture. This was the Lord’s assessment of the Ephesian church.
“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.”
But there’s more—a severe reprimand – a possible penalty
“Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.”
He called them to repent? Repent—or else? They seemed the perfect church but they had become so absorbed with their good works, so caught up in their dreams and purpose, that their zeal and love of God had suffered loss. They had forgotten to bask in His sweet presence and just love Him and receive His love as well.
But, Lord. What are the first works?
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. ‘”
I fell on my knees and repented. I wanted to serve the Lord in a grandiose manner. All He wanted were the first works…the greatest works!
Beautiful daughters of the Most High God, run to your Beloved and love Him. Tell Him why you love Him and listen for His dear voice. He has something to say to you!
“I love you more than you know. More than you ever dreamed,
hoped or even imagined”
Now run— listen. Be sure to grab you pen and journal to write what your Beloved whispers in your heart!
