What is Marvelous, Excellent, and Good?
“Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy,(loving-kindness) nor knowledge of God in the land.”
“When that child was born I said, ‘He’ll grow up to be a little stinker,’ and that’s exactly what happened.”
And I cringed as I heard this conversation, so void of kindness, of mercy, while waiting to be seen at the OBGYN’s office.
But the other day I heard a different kind of mother speak words of kindness, words of mercy over her newborn infant—hours old. “She’s smart! She had no trouble learning how to breastfeed.”
And I smiled knowing this baby would grow up and fulfill God’s destiny on her life.
But Father’s heart is full of grief when mercy—loving-kindness—is not heard in our land. The Hebrew word for lovingkindness and mercy is checed. It possesses three qualities—strength, steadfastness and love. These three virtues interact. Love—true love—cannot stand by itself without being strong and steadfast
Studying the God’s lovingkindness according to scriptures reveals something magnificent.
- Marvelous, set apart, distinguished above others
- Excellent, valuable, weighty and noble
- Good, pleasant, delightful and festive
It was the lovingkindness of God that brought the prodigal home. It was the loving-kindness of God that turned His back on His only Son so your name could be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. And it was the loving-kindness of God that saw you, yet imperfect, and said, “For that one…I’ll go. She’s no stinker—she’s smart. She’ll glorify Me.” His kindness is strong. It’s steadfast. It’s marvelous excellent and good.
Go out with a shout and declare God’s loving-kindness over yourself, over your loved ones. Let the mercy of God be heard in your land—wherever that land is. Bring forth the struggling ones and speak of God’s steadfast, strong love over them. And watch the God of Creation, Elohim, do what He yearns to do—something wonderful!
