Why Stuffed Animals are Important to God
“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways”
There was a miracle at my home this Sunday—my husband cleaned out his car!
“Margie, here’s a bag of stuffed animals from one of the professors I teach with. All her grandchildren are grown and she thought we could use these. I almost threw them out. They’ve been in my car for months.” (sigh)
Excitedly I opened the bag and counted fourteen Ganz animals. They were adorable and in perfect condition! And I cried as I gathered them around me. I know stuffed animals are for children but only two weeks before while making my bed I breathed a prayer that was really a wish—a request I would never even consider praying for. Wouldn’t that be silly?
Lord, I wish I had some pretty stuffed animals like my sister Jo.
Father saw. Father heard. The animals Father gave me were His hugs, His affirmation, His total attention to me. And they were delivered just when I needed them—just when I felt—quite unlovely!
So this week my grandchildren will visit. Have I got a surprise for them!
Some might say, ‘Well, that’s so childish…silly. Surely God has more crucial needs to address. Get a grip on life. God gave you stuffed animals?”
So the Almighty is placed in a box. No one considers the One who created the fragile violet with its ruffled edges. No one stoops low enough to consider the tender Creator who placed pockets in the mouth of a chipmunk so the little creature could collect many nuts at one time.
But I implore you today, dear reader, to stand still and consider the One whose extravagant love for you nailed Jesus to the cross. Be still and know He hears every request and counts every one of your hairs—and it matter to Him—because He loves you so!
Finally, dear one, this outrageous, crazy love, Father has for you is His heart, His extreme longing for you. He calls you to rest here, breathe here, live here—hope here in His heart of love—for YOU! Because you matter to Him. And that’s… why stuffed animals are important to God.
